Nurturing the Next Generation: Reflections from APRA2023

Inspiring Moments and Valuable Insights at the African Public Relations Association (APRA) Conference

As I immerse myself in the vibrant ambiance of the APRA2023 conference, I am overwhelmed with a mix of emotions. Each moment unfolds like a tapestry of inspiration, interwoven with extraordinary narratives and encounters that leave an indelible mark on my heart and soul.

Among the many unforgettable moments, I’ve experienced:

Standing Shoulder to Shoulder with Industry Luminaries

The privilege of sharing space with luminaries in our industry, such as APRA’s esteemed president, Yomi Badejo-Okusanya (YBO), and the legendary Justin Green at the University of Zambia, is nothing short of awe-inspiring. These encounters serve as a vivid reminder of the transformative power of connection and the invaluable wisdom that is generously shared within our community.

Empowering the Next Generation

Our goal is to equip the upcoming generation with the necessary tools and knowledge to succeed in the future. One of the highlights of the conference was the opportunity to share insights on the transition from academic life to professional careers. Condensing years of experience into practical advice for the upcoming generation was profoundly rewarding. Witnessing the immediate transformation in the faces of young students, filled with hope, inspiration, and newfound determination, reaffirmed my belief in the boundless potential of our industry’s future leaders.

These experiences have left me with a deep sense of gratitude and introspection. What I once considered personal career milestones have evolved into something far more significant source of guidance and inspiration for those who are embarking on their own professional journeys. The realization that my experiences can serve as beacons of light for others is both humbling and invigorating.

I extend heartfelt thanks to PRCA Africa NextGen and Jo Brophy for providing this incredible opportunity. Special appreciation goes to Kwame Senou and THOP The Holding Opinion and Public for making this gathering of minds possible. Together, we are creating a legacy of knowledge-sharing, mentorship, and inspiration that will continue to shape the landscape of public relations for generations to come.

As I eagerly anticipate the remainder of this exceptional conference, I am reminded that our industry thrives on the connections we forge, the wisdom we impart, and the collective dedication to fostering the next generation of communicators. It is a privilege and an honour to be part of this remarkable journey, one that reaffirms the enduring strength and vitality of public relations.
